The different types of comics in Viet Nam. Part 1: One shot
Thinking of dipping your toes into comic creation? The one-shot is the way to go! One-shot – a term for a standalone comic issue or chapter, unlike a series that spans multiple editions or ongoing chapters. (From Wikipedia)
So, in case you’ve got some drawing chops, also have put in the work, mastered the strokes, burned through your wallets to buy every possible brush, and devoured countless comics. Now, it’s finally time for your passion to take shape. Think of One-shot as Chapter One of an aspiring comic artist’s career—it just makes sense, right?
Take a stroll through Facebook’s comic-drawing groups, and you’ll find tons of indie works. Whether you’re a solo artist or a small rising team, self-publishing your story is the perfect way to start. No need for ads—it’s all about picking the right format.
For artists, releasing a One-shot helps them take instant feedback, and on the readers’ side, just a random scroll and they might stumble upon some crazy unique stories. So, what do we get? Talented newbies, a diverse collection of comics, and sometimes even full-length chapters to quench our thirst for Vietnamese comics. These passion-fueled works carry endless potential for the future of the industry.
Facebook groups are also the ultimate playground for anyone passionate about comic creation – a space to connect, exchange ideas, and stay motivated. Some well-established teams have even built platforms for young artists to shine. If you’ve got that mangaka vibe inside, check out groups like Punkgame, Pop Comic, Comicola, Xưởng Truyện Tranh. However, when you’re in, don’t get overwhelmed, take it as fuel to push your art and storytelling to the next level instead.
